Professor Pricklethorn Plants the Love of Trees in Trochu
Trochu Arboretum Arbor Day Celebration – May 22, 2025
The Trochu Arboretum came alive with laughter, learning, and leafy inspiration on May 22, 2025, as nearly 100 students from Trochu Valley School — joined by a few enthusiastic homeschoolers — gathered under blue skies and blossoming branches for a special Arbor Day celebration.
At the heart of the event was the unforgettable Professor Pricklethorn, a tree-loving educator known for his wild hair, larger-than-life personality, and deep-rooted passion for all things trees! With his signature blend of humour and heart, the Professor took the crowd on a fun-filled journey into the world of trees.

Through interactive storytelling and a hands-on demonstration, Professor Pricklethorn helped kids understand the vital role trees play in our ecosystems — and how even young citizens can be powerful tree defenders. From the importance of tree roots and soil health to how leaves “breathe” and support life, his presentation sparked curiosity and awe in the next generation of environmental stewards.
Students asked questions, shared their own tree stories, and even took part in a ceremonial tree planting, adding new life to the Arboretum’s living legacy. The event not only celebrated Arbor Day, but also deepened community connection, environmental awareness, and a sense of shared responsibility for the green spaces that nourish our town.
Special thanks to Professor Pricklethorn, the staff of Trochu Valley School, local homeschool families, and the dedicated volunteers of the Trochu Arboretum Society for making the day a blooming success.
