The Trochu Arboretum is preparing for another beautiful growing season, and we’re looking for volunteers to help bring the gardens to life. With several spring projects planned, we welcome anyone who enjoys working outdoors, contributing to the community, or simply spending time in this special space.

Our Facility Manager has outlined a number of tasks for April, and we are hoping to build a group of regular volunteers to assist with general maintenance, garden preparation, and small improvement projects.

How You Can Help

Volunteers are especially needed for:

• Picking weeds
• Preparing garden beds for planting
• General spring cleanup
• Light maintenance projects

No experience is necessary — just a willingness to help!

April Projects

Planned work for April includes:

Grounds & Garden Preparation

• Pruning caragana hedges (front and east side)
• Lawn cleanup
• Raking leaves
• Picking up branches
• General grounds cleanup
• Using mowers with bags to collect leaves for compost

Maintenance Projects

• Sanding and resurfacing the stained glass bench
• Repairing and resurfacing gazebo stairs
• Finishing painting of front service gates
• Adjusting gates (equipment provided by Public Works)

These projects help ensure the Arboretum is safe, welcoming, and ready for visitors throughout the season.
